We offer both standard profiles and custom development

We think in applications, not catalog numbers

The effectiveness of a seal depends on a thorough understanding of the application for which it was designed. This applies to standard dimensions just as much as to custom developments. Hänssler is neither a distributor reselling catalogue stock nor a contract manufacturer that produces to drawing without asking questions. We are a development partner with 40 years of experience in sealing technology, thinking alongside you.

Solid and flexible standard

The majority of our portfolio consists of seals based on well-established engineering practices. These are profiles that have stood the test of time and are now widely accepted as the standard design for many industry applications. Anyone familiar with seals from Parker, Freudenberg or Trelleborg will find similar solutions with us.

However, there are points where we differ. For example, we communicate with you openly and provide detailed information on the material composition, whether it’s NBR at 70 Shore A, PTFE with 25% glass fibre fill, or a specific grade of PEEK. With us, you always know exactly what you’re installing. This provides a better basis for making decisions, both technically and commercially.

As a manufacturer, we are not bound by fixed catalogue dimensions when it comes to geometry. Within a profile family, we can freely scale dimensions and adapt sizes, tolerances and materials to your installation space, rather than delivering the closest standard article. Essentially, we provide a solid standard offering with greater flexibility thanks to our engineering capabilities, which also enable us to produce custom profiles.

When the standard no longer suffices

Before selecting a profile, we wanna know exactly what happens in the application. Which medium flows through the system? What cleaning chemicals are used regularly? What does the counterface look like? What temperatures occur during normal operation and at peak loads? How accessible is the installation space if the seal needs replacing at some point?

Answering these questions takes a little time at the beginning. In the long run, however, they will save significantly more time. Whether a seal lasts for years or needs replacing after a few months depends on more than just the profile. The boundary conditions considered or overlooked during the design phase also play a decisive role. From our experience of thousands of projects, we know where the critical points lie and can address them early on.

With us, you will have a dedicated contact person. They know your installation situation, consolidate enquiries and don’t have to start from scratch every time there are changes to the project. They will coordinate with the design and production teams, provide feedback on tolerances, edges and installation conditions, and highlight potential weak points before they become apparent during operation.

From the first conversation to series production, we work with you to achieve the best possible outcome. Both technically and commercially

The right material for every seal

Elastomer seals

We process virtually all technically relevant elastomer grades. NBR and HNBR for hydraulics and pneumatics in the standard temperature range, FKM and FFKM for aggressive media and high temperatures, EPDM for water, hot water, and polar solvents, and VMQ and FVMQ for food applications and low temperatures. When selecting materials, we take into account the medium, temperature, pressure fluctuations, lubrication conditions, and chemical properties.

Seals made of thermoplastics

For guide elements, support rings, and special seals, we use thermoplastic materials such as PA, POM, PEEK, and PPS. PEEK in various formulations—such as carbon fiber-, glass fiber-, or PTFE-filled—offers the highest resistance to pressure, temperature, and friction

Seals made of PTFE and compounds

PTFE compounds form the backbone of our seals. Depending on the application, they are filled with bronze, glass fiber, carbon fiber, graphite, or polyimide. This allows us to address applications that cannot be solved with elastomers: chemically aggressive media, dry running, and extremely high or low temperatures.
