A rod seal is typically located in the cylinder head and seals the pressurized cylinder chamber against the atmosphere. During translational movement, it must simultaneously control friction, pressure peaks, and lubricant film build-up. The design balances service life, leakage, and lubricant film.

A piston seal sits between the piston and cylinder bore and separates the pressure chambers from each other. It prevents hydraulic oil or compressed air from crossing over from the pressure side to the opposing side. Depending on the application, it is used as a single-acting or double-acting variant.

A wiper removes external contaminants from the retracting piston rod before they can enter the cylinder. It does not seal against system pressure — instead, it protects the rod seal, guide, and hydraulic fluid from dirt, chips, and moisture, extending service life.

A guide ring centers the piston or rod within the cylinder bore and prevents metallic contact between moving components. It absorbs lateral forces and stabilizes the sealing gap, ensuring that piston and rod seals run under uniform load and wear remains controlled.

A spring-energized seal combines a PTFE or high-performance polymer jacket with an integrated metal spring in various configurations. The spring provides the preload, keeping the sealing lip reliably in contact even at low pressure, high deflection, or varying thermal expansion.

A rotary seal prevents the escape of lubricants or process media and protects against the ingress of contaminants. Depending on speed, medium, and pressure, different designs are used — such as radial shaft seals, mechanical face seals, or spring-energized lip seals.

A radial shaft seal (commonly known as a lip seal or Simmerring^®) is a contact seal with an elastic sealing lip and typically spring-reinforced contact pressure. It seals rotating shafts radially, retains lubricants such as oil or grease within the housing, and protects against dirt, dust, and moisture.

A back-up ring is a pressure-side support element that bridges the sealing gap and protects the seal from extrusion. At high or pulsating pressures, it is a standard component of the sealing system. Typically manufactured from PTFE, POM, PA, or PEEK, often used in combination with O-rings.

A custom seal is a seal with an application-specific cross-section that goes beyond standardized profiles. It is manufactured individually to customer requirements and used wherever catalog solutions fall short. Our material range covers elastomers, thermoplastics, and PTFE compounds.

O-rings and X-rings are ring-shaped seals that are installed in a groove and sealed by compression. They are used both statically and dynamically across virtually all areas of hydraulics, pneumatics, and process engineering. Compared to O-rings, X-rings offer lower friction and do not twist under movement.

A flat seal is a static seal compressed between two flat surfaces — such as flanges, covers, or housings. Depending on material, geometry, and quantity, it is manufactured by punching, waterjet cutting, laser cutting, or turning.

A seal kit is a pre-assembled set of all sealing components for an assembly or hydraulic cylinder. It ensures that all approved parts are reliably available at the workstation for initial assembly and overhaul — individually compiled, UV-protected packaging, and batch-documented.
